Imported cooling system solutions and maintenance

Have you noticed that many European cars and SUVs no longer have the coolant replacement intervals listed in the service information? This may be because the cooling system needs to be repaired or replaced before this interval. It can be a hose, a plastic connector or a water pump. Your store has options. Some replacement parts may be better than original parts. When dealing with the complexity and longevity of today's vehicles, these parts can create a win-win situation for your store and customers.

These solutions can simplify maintenance and prevent future failures. In a 45-minute webinar sponsored by CRP Automotive, the company that brought you Rein Automotive, we will introduce six common cooling system repairs for BMW, Audi and Volkswagen. These repair solutions will cover more than 6 million cars on the road today.

If the 2007-2011 Acura MDX battery runs out of power after the vehicle has been parked for a short time or overnight, and/or the air-conditioning system blows warm air, the air-conditioning compressor clutch relay may be stuck in the off state. The air conditioner compressor may also be noisy and may discharge refrigerant vapor from the safety valve.

If the battery of the 2007-'11 Acura MDX runs out after the vehicle has been parked for a short time or overnight, and/or the air-conditioning system blows warm air, the air-conditioning compressor clutch relay may be stuck in the off state. The air conditioner compressor may also be noisy and may discharge refrigerant vapor from the safety valve.

Note: If the only symptom is that the battery is dead, it may happen intermittently.

If the relay remains unchanged when the ignition switch is turned to the locked (0) position and the compressor is running, sufficient parasitic current will be generated to discharge the battery. If the relay remains the same when the engine and A/C are running at a lower speed, the A/C pressure may surge, causing the compressor's safety valve to open and lose refrigerant.

Replace the air conditioner compressor clutch relay (P/N 39794-SDA-A05). If necessary, charge the battery, replace the compressor safety valve (P/N 38801-P9K-E01), and vacuum and charge the air conditioning system.

1. If the battery is dead, test it and recharge it.

Note: If the battery is low, the vehicle may be misdiagnosed due to low battery voltage, resulting in low current consumption.

– If the result is Good Battery, go to step 2.

– If the result is to replace the battery or replace the bad battery, replace the battery, and then go to step 2.

2. Connect the AC/DC clamp meter with the negative battery cable and select DC. see picture 1.

3. Set the ignition switch to the Lock (0) position and check for parasitic current.

– If there is 2-4 amperes of current, go to step 4.

– If the current is less than 2 amperes, this service bulletin does not apply. If the battery is low or low, the repair is complete. If the battery is normal, continue with normal troubleshooting.

Note: The jamming of the relay must currently occur to affect the parasitic draw. This condition may be intermittent.

4. Remove the air conditioner compressor clutch relay from the fuse/relay box under the hood. See Figure 2.

– If the parasitic phenomenon disappears, go to the maintenance procedure.

– If the parasitic lottery has not disappeared, this announcement does not apply; continue normal troubleshooting.

Air conditioner cooling or noise problems:

1. Start the engine and let it idle until the cooling fan starts.

2. Turn on the air conditioner. Make sure that the low, automatic, and recirculation modes are selected.

3. Keep the engine speed at 2,000 rpm with the doors and windows closed.

4. Observe the air conditioner compressor clutch. The compressor clutch and cooling fan should always circulate together. When the cooling fan is off, never engage the compressor clutch.

5. When the PGM-FI data list shows that the A/C switch and clutch are off, use HDS to check whether the compressor clutch is engaged.

Note: The compressor and/or engine may pulsate or moan, just like nervousness.

6. Check the safety valve area on the compressor for traces of refrigerant oil. If oil is found, the valve has been opened to relieve the overpressure. If the safety valve is open, refrigerant vapor may also be present.

7. If you confirm any of these symptoms, go to the repair procedure.

1. Install a new A/C compressor clutch relay in the fuse/relay box under the hood.

2. Check the air conditioner compressor safety valve.

Does the compressor safety valve show signs of opening?

No-the repair has been completed. Confirm that the compressor clutch is working properly.

3. Use recycling/recycling/charging stations to recover refrigerant from the system.

4. Remove the front splash guard.

6. Remove the safety valve and O-ring. See Figure 3. Block the opening to prevent foreign matter from entering the system and air conditioning compressor oil from flowing out. Do not reuse O-rings.

8. Apply a thin layer of refrigerating machine oil on the new equipment

O-ring and install it on the pressure relief valve.

9. Remove the plug, install the pressure relief valve and tighten it to 13.2 Nm (9.7 lb.-ft.).

10. Evacuation system. Make sure it is kept under vacuum for at least 15 minutes.

11. Add the amount of new refrigeration oil removed during the recovery process to the system, and add an extra ounce as the amount lost when the safety valve is opened.

Note: Only use Denso ND-OIL 8 refrigeration oil (P/N 38897-PR7-AO1AH).

12. Fill the system with the specified amount of R-134a refrigerant.

14. Reinstall the front splash guard.

16. Check the system to make sure it is operating properly.
