A Sri Lankan factory manager was tortured and set on fire by Pakistani mobs on suspicion of blasphemy. The body was buried in his hometown with national honor

Colombo, Sri Lanka-On Wednesday, the body of a Sri Lankan factory manager was tortured and set on fire by a group of mobs in Pakistan for alleged blasphemy.

The Buddhist clergy held a religious ceremony at Priyantha Kumara's home, and then the police led family and friends to carry the coffin and his charred body to the cemetery.

The road was covered with condolence banners and white flags that symbolized condolences.

Kumara was attacked by hundreds of people last Friday in Sialkot, Pakistan, dragged into the street and set on fire, where he helped run a sports equipment factory. The factory workers accused him of desecrating posters bearing the name of the Islamic prophet Muhammad.

The victim's brother, Arunasiri Wasantha Kumara Diyawadana, also served as the technical director of a garment factory in Pakistan. He said that the factory should have a safe environment.

"It didn't happen in this particular situation," he said.

He called for improved management practices in order to resolve any disputes before it is too late.

He said that the two governments should determine "the actual root cause of this situation, whether it is religious issues or labor disputes, so they must find a solution."

In Pakistan, mere accusations of blasphemy may trigger mob attacks. The country’s blasphemy laws may punish the death penalty.

Pakistani police arrested dozens of people involved in violence, and Prime Minister Imran Khan promised to severely punish those convicted.
