Imported cooling system solutions and maintenance

Have you noticed that many European cars and SUVs no longer have the coolant replacement intervals listed in the service information? This may be because the cooling system needs to be repaired or replaced before this interval. It can be a hose, a plastic connector or a water pump. Your store has options. Some replacement parts may be better than original parts. When dealing with the complexity and longevity of today's vehicles, these parts can create a win-win situation for your store and customers.

These solutions can simplify maintenance and prevent future failures. In a 45-minute webinar sponsored by CRP Automotive, the company that brought you Rein Automotive, we will introduce six common cooling system repairs for BMW, Audi and Volkswagen. These repair solutions will cover more than 6 million cars on the road today.

Noise is a typical sign of damage to wheel bearings or hub bearings. It may take some time to determine the cause of the damage.

Signs of wheel bearing wear can be difficult to detect, but failure to identify and correct the problem can cause damage before the driver knows that there is a problem. The damage may be due to driving conditions and/or installation procedures. Noise is a typical sign of damage to a wheel bearing or hub bearing, but it may require some investigation to determine the exact cause of the damage.

To diagnose the cause of the bearing damage, take a close look at the damaged hub and compare the customer's hub with the attached photos.

Symptoms: Wheel vibration and/or excessive noise.

Diagnosis: Rough or worn shaft retaining nuts indicate movement due to loss of bearing retention. Please refer to the original equipment manufacturer's instructions or visit timkeninfo.com to determine the correct torque for the shaft retaining nut.

Reason: Loss of bearing retention is the main cause of damage to hub bearings, resulting in wheel vibration and/or noise. When the bearing exhibits incorrect torque or loses its self-retaining function, the shaft fixing nut will retract. This will change the bearing settings in the hub, leading to misalignment and accelerated wear.

Solution: Always use a new shaft to secure the nut and tighten it with an appropriate torque to avoid rough and worn surfaces under the nut. Tighten the axle lock nut to the proper torque to help avoid rough and worn surfaces under the nut.

Symptoms: accelerated bearing wear or multiple returns of the same wheel end application.

Diagnosis: Check the hub tube when replacing the wheel bearing with a separate hub. Check the outer diameter (OD) of the hub for signs of damage. Look for swelling or discoloration on the surface of the barrel due to thermal damage caused by cone turning. If you find any signs of damage, replace the hub.

Reason: Loss of shaft fixation or reinstallation of a worn hub will cause the cone or inner ring to rotate on the hub, accelerating the wear of the cone hole and the hub barrel. This cone rotation may indicate a loss of bearing retention or an improper fit between the cone hole and the hub diameter.

Solution: If you find that the hub tube is damaged, replace it.

Symptom: A damaged sensor cable or a damaged wheel speed sensor turns on the anti-lock braking system (ABS) light.

Diagnosis: Look for evidence of damage to sharp objects or cables being clamped by pinch points. Make sure that the cable passes through the entire sensor cable retaining clip. If the sensor cable is not damaged, check whether the external sensor has a crack in the sensor body or whether the cable in the sensor head is loose.

Reason: Sharp objects may damage, squeeze, or bend the sensor cable. Damage to the sensor cable is a common cause of ABS failure. The installation may damage the wheel speed sensor.

Solution: Pass the sensor cable through all fixing clips. Use wheels in good condition to reduce wear. Use retaining clips to avoid pinching the cables.
