What is covered by modern warranty?

Reading the buyer’s guide and reviews of the latest modern models is one thing, but when the odometer rolls to five digits or higher, what is it like to own one? In recent years, MotorTrend editors have witnessed the advancement in quality, technology and performance of Hyundai cars and SUVs. Despite this, the Korean brand still offers a generous standard warranty to help get rid of any lingering inferior architectural or design concepts. The following is Hyundai's warranty coverage, the details of which will extend from 2021 to 2022.

Hyundai's bumper-to-bumper warranty covers five years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first. The coverage includes defects in materials and workmanship that occur under normal use and maintenance of the vehicle. This involves various external, internal, electronic and chassis components. The exemption includes paint, and the warranty period is three years or 36,000 miles.

The first year or 12,000 miles includes some basic service adjustments as well as parts and accessories. Routine maintenance services, such as oil and other fluid replacement, filter replacement, wiper wipers, and some burned out bulbs and fuses, are not covered by the insurance. In addition, vehicles that have been modified or damaged may not be covered by most aspects of the warranty.

Modern power systems (ie engines, transmissions, and other hardware related to powering the wheels) have a warranty of 10 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. Powertrain components include components in the engine block and cylinder head, various gears, seals, shafts, bearings, pumps, and turbochargers equipped in vehicles. It does not include items that are normally worn, such as spark plugs or clutch linings for manual transmission vehicles.

Please note that the powertrain warranty only applies to the original owner and cannot be transferred to subsequent owners. If you sell a car, the next owner will have a 5-year/60,000-mile warranty.

Hyundai cars are very similar to cars equipped with gas engines, offering a 10-year/100,000-mile warranty for their hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and all-electric vehicles. The coverage is applicable to the electric motors and related components, charging hardware and batteries of these vehicles. Hyundai Motor pointed out that all electric car batteries will degrade over time; after many charging cycles, their energy is not as good as new. Therefore, Hyundai Motor promises that its battery will not reduce more than 70% of its original capacity during the warranty period.

Regardless of the mileage, Hyundai cars can guarantee seven years of rust-free. This is defined as a hole through the body panel due to workmanship defects and normal use. The surface or appearance corrosion on the body glass covers three years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. Corrosion of any other parts or areas, such as exhaust system or bottom floor, is not included. If a collision requires body repair, it must be completed within the scope of modern standards, and approved anti-corrosion materials must be used.

Roadside assistance is provided in all 50 states and Canada for 60 months, any time of the year, any time of the day. If your Hyundai cannot start or your tires are flat, or if you run out of gas tank or lock the key in it, please call the roadside assistance hotline (the phone number is listed in your user manual). A technician will come to assist you, or tow your vehicle to the nearest Hyundai dealer or service center. If the problem occurs more than 150 miles from your home, you may be entitled to reimbursement for necessary accommodation or transportation expenses. There are a few exceptions: if you are driving off-road or have a collision, modern roadside assistance will not help.

Like other automakers, including Toyota, Hyundai offers free maintenance for convenience (and to ensure that the car gets the attention it needs to stay in top condition). The difference between Hyundai and non-luxury automakers is that for basic services such as oil changes and tire changes, the coverage can last a full three years or 36,000 miles.
