Ashes 2021, Australia's first test against Gabba, England: team news, Pat Cummins, Choroot, talking points, video

2021-12-14 23:33:26 By : Ms. Shally Liu

323 days later, after Gabba lost to India with a stunning three-pointer, the Australian test team will compete in Brisbane, hoping to make an important statement in their defense of the ashes.

Tim Paine will not be on the court, the fallen captain will watch from a distance a few miles away, or he will not, because Pat Cummins became the first fast since Leylin Dewall more than half a century ago. The pitcher, the Australian captain is in the test.

How he takes on additional responsibilities will be one of many storylines that opposition, coaches, experts and sharp-eyed fans watch and observe.

From form issues to no form to leave, injury to resignation, a series of topics remain unresolved.

With this in mind, here are five pressing questions before another highly anticipated Ashes series?

If Cummins struggles with the ball, will Australia panic for the captain?

Forced to the corner, Australia turned to Cummins—a model citizen, important these days—when they needed to lead his country forward.

Since Lindwall became the first in 1956 and until Cummins became the only fast captain of his country, this is a path that the Australian cricket team has not followed.

Why this happened is now a good story, but as a former England captain and one of the spokespersons of cricket, Mike Atherton started a column on this topic this week, it’s not a piece Things that can be covered up.

"Our headhunters should only recommend fast bowlers as a last resort," Atherton began, citing Mike Brayley's "Captain's Art."

Brearley wrote: "Knowing when to play bowling, focusing all his energy on an aggressive ball, and being tactically and psychologically sensitive to the needs of the team, this requires a special role."

Behind this, Atherton, who was the national captain in 54 of the 115 tests, thought about some ideas.

"Can Cummins handle all this? Can he break the pattern? In a one-on-one match with a batsman, can he control his emotions and calmly think about the overall situation? Can he compete between low bowling and high bowling? Find the right balance between the two? How will he combine the extreme physical requirements with the constant thinking requirements for the game. There is no more fine-leg rest between grazing. Can his body stick to this course?" Arthur Dunn wrote in his "Times" column.

All these questions are valid.

In modern times, there is a large group of people preparing to post their thoughts on Twitter, many of them can hit the target on this social media platform or other platforms, and Cummins will become a besieged person.

Unlike Lindwall, Cummins needs to deal with a 24-hour news cycle.

For Ricky Ponting, Michael Clarke and Steve Smith, and even Tim Paine, their average level increases with increasing responsibility.

Cummins is the world's No. 1 bowler, averaging 21.59 points per game and 47.1 field goal percentage. There may only be one way to go: down.

His size can fight any fast bowler, including those of Glenn McGrath.

Just recently, Ricky Ponting laughed at the idea that his vanguard could become the captain.

"He will shoot 45 straight from one end," Ponting quipped on Channel 7.

Brett Lee has always believed that Cummins should focus on his bowling.

"To be honest, it's too difficult for fast bowlers," Lee told Fox Cricket.

"He can definitely do it. I'm not saying that he is incapable of doing it, I'm just saying that I don't want to put pressure on the world's number one bowler. I want Pat Cummins to win the wicket for Australia."

Cummins had only a few A-level captain experience in New South Wales last summer, and now he must fight this dilemma.

He has experience like Steve Smith and David Warner, but if you consider the events of 2018, his deputy is considered too controlling and many people will yell.

Whether it is right or wrong, every turn of Cummins is subject to strict scrutiny.

How he handles the additional responsibilities and the bombing of reports is likely to affect his tenure as captain and the outcome of the series.

If you roll the dice and win, will the captain dare to send the opposition to BAT?

Will the ghost of Nasser Hussein, or Ricky Ponting of Edgbaston, return in 2002?

It has been almost two decades since Hussein appeared in Gabba and sent Steve Waugh's men to hit the ball in hopes of some life and early wickets.

This is a decision that will always haunt him, and it is now a legend.

Shane Warne believes that Hussain laughed when Ricky Ponting sent the England team to Edgbaston three years later, after a few days of rain, because it was a counterproductive decision and overtook him as the worst decision.

Michael Vaughan smiled wryly when Ponting chose to bowl without McGrath in the second test. He told Foxsports.com.au that if they did not decide to bowl, Australia would "win the game with 2-300 points."

Former Queensland and Australia goalkeeper Ian Healy said that given the conditions, Cummins will have to try bowling.

"It's green... I think it might be a bowl (pitch) first," Healy said.

"This runs counter to our cricket myth.

"It was cloudy last week, it rained heavily, and there was another big storm on Saturday night."

Healy said the next day might be equally difficult, so a second shot might help.

"If you are knocked down on the first day, it will still be difficult to hit the ball on the second day because it will accelerate and harden," Healy told SEN.

"Just don't cause disastrous consequences in the first game."

On Tuesday, Cummins was also paying close attention to the stadium.

Given that he is the best speed in the world, he may just want to send the England team in.

This is his first major decision as the captain.

Is James Anderson a loser?

If you believe Shane Warne and Damien Martyn, Anderson's absence is huge.

Vaughan described his absence as a "loss", and Martin said it was "unbelievable" after confirming that Anderson was managed by the European Central Bank.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan will exclude Anderson anyway. He thinks he needs to prepare for Adelaide-although the 2005 Ashes champion admitted that he did not understand the situation on the court.

On this basis, it is expected that the weather will be gloomy after a few weeks of rain. Martyn believes that Gabba's surface will be tailored to Anderson, who is the master of swing.

In a separate tweet, Martin described the ECB's decision as "crazy nonsense, incredible" and "Australia would be very happy that he did not participate in the game."

He added: "Jimmy Anderson would be the perfect choice for Gabba in the imminent situation."

With 632 scalps, Anderson became the greatest wicket in Test Cricket. He struggled with Gabba and averaged 75 points per game at Gabba in four Ashes games.

But a swinging ball brought the 39-year-old player back to the game.

Although Anderson wrote in a column in The Telegraph that he was “never so under-prepared” in “middle bowling,” but if it was an Adelaide test, the right arm would be unlikely to be controlled. A pink ball will be used for day and night matches.

Brisbane may have a similar situation with the ball.

Experienced fast Chris Walkers is likely to be the candidate to replace Anderson.

Woakes is not a novice. In Australia's only defeat during the T20 World Cup victory, he scored an average of 28.73 with a score of 2-23.

This experienced bowling all-around player is very similar to Anderson, relying on the movement of swing and off the deck.

He also provided a large number of bats, which strengthened their batting lineup-one aspect of England XI looked unstable because Joe Root was the only player to average more than 40 batting.

Although the decision to rest Anderson seems to be a huge risk, his odds of winning throughout the series are always great.

Maybe two tests with a pink ball might be a genius.

When England last won in Australia in the 2010-11 season, they won with the support of Alastair Cook's incredible series.

The average number of shots of the opening batsman was 127.66, and the hitting time was three centuries and two and a half centuries.

But he is not alone. The other four teammates are averaging more than 50 points per game-Jonathan Trotter (89), Ian Bell (Ian Bell 65.80), Kevin Peterson (60) and Matt Pu Ryle (50.40)-Andrew Strauss averaged 43.85 points per game, scoring more than a century, and then over 50 three times.

England’s bowlers are effective without leaving the world. Tim Bresnan kept the pressure, scoring an average of 19.54 in the two tests, and was strongly supported by Chris Tremlet (23.55) .

James Anderson's average score in all five tests was 26.04, Stephen Finn was 33.14, and Graeme Swann was 39.80.

These numbers are not indicative of 3-1 rule.

No, the pressure was caused by the shot, and Ricky Ponting's men could not stand up.

All the above-mentioned batsmen are the best batsmen in England.

Looking at the players below, only Joe Root-the only player in the England squad who averaged over 40 years old-will enter the 2010 team.

Ben Stokes will naturally fight for a position, but even the all-rounder only averages 37.04 per game.

In sharp contrast, even in an unstable Australian side, there are some people who try to consolidate their positions, but there is more movement on the board.

David Warner, despite all his struggles in England, averaged 48.09 in the cricket test, Steve Smith was 61.80, and the rising Manus Labusiane was 60.80.

These are figures that overwhelm the opponent.

Although Marcus Harris and Travis Hyde have gone in and out of the wing and will face the England team, even the latter's average of 39.75 per game is better than the entire England winger's 50.15.

Nathan Lyon is a tried-and-tested spinner. He likes Australian conditions and is about to become the third local in 400 test wickets.

He may be struggling statistically against India, but the opportunity he created was not seized by Paine.

Jack Leach's data is accumulated-62 wickets, 29.98-but he is not sure about playing in Brisbane, this is the little confidence of the English selectors in the orthodox spinner of the left arm.

Experts and fans sometimes get lost in the numbers and may lose the feeling of the game-La Bouchagne went from a humble player to one of the best in the world almost overnight-but the record usually doesn't lie.

Where is Australia’s biggest weakness?

If you are England coach Chris Silverwood and meet with Root at the last minute, you may be eager to play where you can use Australia.

From Cameron Green’s lack of dribbling; the choice of Harris and Hyde; Alex Carey’s debut before the sudden and tragic resignation of captain Paine; the coming of the Cummins era; The little red ball cricket Australian star played on the weaknesses of Stark and Lyon; England can honed in many areas.

Cummins' arrival as captain is close to the biggest one.

If the England team can hit and hit the ball, they will test his patience and courage as captain to understand his international debut as captain.

But to check Australia's technology, Root will check Harris, Warner and Hyde's technology outside the broken pile line.

Although Warner recovered during the T20 World Cup, white ball cricket and red ball are a different kind of fish tank, especially if you haven't been wearing a white jersey since February.

Patience and footwork will be the key to Warner, who has achieved success against spins during the UAE T20 World Cup.

Facing the fast break, Warner showed some weaknesses. If England can swing the ball, they will test the left-handers.

Stuart Broad and his company will do the same. Sneer at the prospect of Harris and Hyde bowling.

Harris averaged only 23.77 points in 10 tests and performed well in county cricket matches. He averaged more than 50 points per game and scored the second century in the Sydney game against New South Wales. But it also failed to reach double digits in the other three innings.

But he still showed some vulnerabilities outside the stump outside the line, especially when playing against bowlers from around the wicket.

He is not the only one, and the vulnerability of Head being chased is still obvious.

Earlier this season, Hyde broke the double century in the game against white balls and created a century for the South Australia team.

However, in the past seven innings, he only scored more than 30 points once-in Adelaide's game against Queensland, he scored 101 points.

England will be confident to open up some old scars by using his desire to throw his hand on the ball on the 6-7th stump line.
