Fishing Report: Fishing rules change with the seasons, and fishing is still good in many waters | Carson City Nevada News-Carson Now

Hello, anglers. I hope your Thanksgiving will be unforgettable. Many changes have taken place in the past few weeks. As you will see in the fishing report, the fishing regulations for this season have changed.

One change I am looking forward to is the Indus Reservoir and surrounding areas. I have been in contact with the Bureau of Land Management and the closure plan due to the Tamarak fire will expire on December 1.

This means that the reservoir will be open for fishing again, but as we have read in recent days, some people want to change the name of the lake, saying that naming it Indian Creek is an insulting and harmful act .

I have talked with many of my friends, some of them are Native Americans. None of the people I spoke to thought the name was an insult to the indigenous people.

For more than 30 years, I have been to Indian Creek Reservoir to enjoy this beautiful and peaceful land. Watch eagle pain and wild animals come alive, sit back and enjoy a day of fishing. I made a lot of new friends in this place. It has a constantly changing character and cannot be explained unless you see it with your own eyes. I think back to the people who have walked on the journey from one place to another. Many years ago, I was sitting by the lake, watching the sunset, thinking of those who walked through this land.

Then I saw the silhouette of an old man on the top of the mountain above Woodfords Canyon, bending over to watch and protect the people passing through it. It is actually a large tree that has been damaged over the years, growing at a 45-degree angle above the canyon and can only be seen in the last few minutes of sunset in spring and summer.

This is not just the one I saw a long time ago. I look forward to seeing the old man still looking at the canyon every year. I only hope that this year, the Tamarak fire did not take it away. To me, India means beauty and peace. If this lake had a different name, I might have never had that kind of experience. But I did it, and I cherish it every year. This is my personal reflection on the renaming of the Indus Reservoir.

CAPLES Lake: The lake has risen a few feet, and most of the snow around the lake has melted. Ice has begun to form, but it is not safe to venture out. As of last week, there are still plenty of areas where you can fish on the shore. The resort is closed due to the season.

Red Lake: As of this week, the lake has not frozen. Rob Bickor and Joe Voss fished last week and reported that they caught a good pair of ferocious trouts. At this time of the year, ice will begin to form on the edges. I recommend staying away from the ice before it reaches 6-8 inches (usually around mid-December).

BLUE LAKES: The gate is closed, and most of the snow we had a few weeks ago has melted.

HIGHLAND LAKES: This route is not recommended at this time of year. And plan to close on any day.

Indus Reservoir: The lake and surrounding areas are scheduled to open on December 1. Fishing in late autumn and winter usually favors large rainbow trout and ferocious trout. I look forward to seeing you there soon.

CARSON RIVER WEST FORK CALIFORNIA SIDE: Fishing is open, you can catch and release artificial bait, and you can only fly with thornless hooks. The traffic has risen a bit. Joe Voss and Rob Bickor used an indicator with a nymph and a bead dropper to fish last week and caught a few good fish. For more information, go to Creekside Inn.

CARSON RIVER EAST FORK CALIFORNIA SIDE: Fishing is open, can be caught and released, artificial bait or flies can only use barbed hooks. The water flowed smoothly last week and the river was crystal clear. For fly anglers, nymping is the most efficient, while small spinners or mouse tails are the most efficient for spinning casters. On December 1, fishing will be opened in the lower reaches of the Hangman Bridge. For more information, please go to Carson River Resort.

CARSON RIVER EAST FORK NEVADA SIDE: The flow is good and has been fluctuating. Fishing has been slow to fair. Salmon eggs or small spinners have always been very productive.

TOPAZ LAKE: The lake level has risen a few feet in the past few weeks. For shore anglers who use Powerbait or inflatable night fish, fishing is fair. The boat ramp in Douglas County is open to those who want to troll. The flashing lights and nightcrawlers have been very effective. Toplinning Rapalas or spinning machines have always been good. If you use a spinner, IE Panther Martin or Roostertail. I recommend using a ball bearing to rotate a few feet to prevent the wire from twisting. Topaz Lodge Derby will not be held this year.

WALKER RIVER WEST FORK CALIFORNIA SIDE: Open to use artificial bait or only fly without barbed hook to catch and release fishing. Be careful at this time of the year because the flow is constantly fluctuating.

WALKER RIVERS NEVADA SIDE: Open all year round, you can use bait or bait fishing.

BRIDGEPORT Reservoir, JUNE LAKE LOOP, TWIN LAKES: Fishing is prohibited during the season.

HEENAN LAKE: Fishing is open until November 30. Use only barbless hooks to catch and release artificial bait or flies. Road conditions may change at this time of the year.

Good luck on your next fishing trip. Be sure to tell others where you are going and when you expect to be back. Bring enough water and make sure the fuel tank is full before leaving.

Another suggestion is to clean the headlights before you leave and be prepared for very cold temperatures. Some anglers who are not familiar with the mountain climate may be caught off guard.

Hope to see you on the water. Good fishing and tight lines.
