CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The community has a new statue to honor the 101st Airborne Division and Fort Campbell. The Tip of the Spear was revealed Saturday in a ceremony at Patriot’s Park on Fort Campbell Boulevard.

The eagle sculpture, named Screaming Eagle and made possible by Montgomery County, is 22 feet high and weighs 7,000 pounds, not including the base, and is sculpted from stainless steel. The piece was designed by sculptor Mark Aeling.

Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett said the sculpture should serve as a reminder to the men and women of Fort Campbell.

“We’ve got their back. We can’t go and fight the wars, but we can take care of their loved ones back here at home. Hopefully it’s just a lasting legacy to them to know that we care about them, and we love them,” Durrett said.

The Tip of the Spear can be found at Patriots Park, 3176 Fort Campbell Blvd., with plans to light he statue during night time hours..
