Last August it was announced that MotoGP will have sprint racing starting next season. This format will be for all Grands Prix and has no bearing on sunday's main race – although it counts for the championship.

As was already known, the distance will be half of the GP race, as well as the points awarded. The statistics of this new race will be separated, with a new line of data appearing in the riders' profile.

The sprint race will be the last on-track session on a normal GP saturday – whose format changes considerably, as we have explained to you in this article.
